This is fabulous!!!!!!!!! I haven't seen any of this information at competitions - I thankfully came across the web site...I will be forwarding my membership to you soon, and would like to see this become a reality!!!! Unfortunately, without something like this - many talented twirlers leave twirling for sports when they get to the high school level so that they can vy for scholarship......

Question: Are the Olympic games next?????

I think what you are doing is great!!!! Twirlers work hard and deserve the same respect that athletes get. Keep up the good work!

I think it is GREAT that this organization has been formed. I would love to help. My daughter is 10 and has been twirling for 4 years. She LOVES it, even with the pressure of all her other friends take just dance lessons. The girls here can not get into twirling because they see no future in it. I have had mothers ask me what is she going to do with the twirl ability? The HS band director here told me "the day I have a baton twirler in my band is the day I quit!" He told me it was an "outdated" sport. At least he recognized it as a sport. I think band director need to get an education in the sport! He is not the only one in our county with that mentality. What can we do? Thanks for all you are doing!

Hi,

My name is Peg Hunt, I have two daughters, Emily: 18 and Katie;15. They both love twirlling. They have taken lessons for the last 4 or 5 years. I would like to help any way that I can. I would also like to see competitions for high school groups. That way there would be more people looking for colleges that would have baton twirling clubs. I think twirling clubs at the college level would be great. I know my daughters would like to be involved in something like that on the college and high school level. Please feel free to contact me at :

Hi! I am the proud mother of a 7 year old baton twirler with the Tennessee Twirlers, Inc. She is so very enthusiastic about her twirling and never complains about the workshops and 'twirl days' that she has to attend...in fact she never wants to leave those events as she is having so much fun. In fact, she has told me that she wants to be a 'teacher' in baton!
I am thrilled to see that baton twirling is being recognized as a serious sport as it takes so much coordination and focus. We know it is not easy but these children and young adults tackle every aspect of it with the heart of a lion and the fierceness of a wildcat.
I will help the NCABT and TTI as much as I can with whatever resources I have available. Feel free to contact me for anything I may be of assistance with.

Thanks again!

Hi. My question refers to how to start the line at your college. I currently am attending Hofstra University. I was on the twirling line first semester but the head of spirity support stopped it because we only had 2 members and said that we need atleast 5 to start it back up. This was before the NCABT was formed and was wondering how i would go about presenting this to him, because he isn't the most easiest person to talk to, he doesn';t budge much. But i am very interested in starting the line back up asap.

thanx
Gina

I am so glad to see this organization doing so much. I have been twirling since I was 3 years old and use to dream of something like this happening. I hope that future twirlers have the opportunities that many of us never had. I am very impressed that someone is taking the initiative to make this happen. Great job and great website. I enjoyed looking through it.

Best of Wishes,

I am very glad to hear of an organization that is looking to help the
Twirlers of this country, rather than just a particular
organization.........it has been long enough that the young talented
twirlers of the United States have been held back from competing in an
olympic sport.............I have watched Ball Room Dancing and curling
as Olympic Sports and it just kills me to think that our daughters have
been working at a sport that includes not only the technique of
twirling, the beauty and grace of dance but many components of
gymnastics........it is a shear JOY to watch our Elite Twirlers. I KNOW
that if more people were aware of what these kids and young adults can
accomplish on the competition floor, they too would be as impressed as I
am.

I PRESUME MY DEAR PAL RM IS READING THIS. ANYWAY, NO MATTER WHAT JOYCE SAYS I AM FULLY SUPPORTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM. TELL ME WHERE TO SEND MY CHECK. I ENDORSE ESPECIALLY GETTING STARTED AS EARLY AS NEXT JANUARY AND I LOVE THE WORK SO FAR ENDORSING EQUITY BETWEEN TECHNIQUE AND ARTISTIC MERIT. I ARGUED FOR THAT APPROQACH WAY BACK IN THE MID 70'S. FOR A WHILE, NBTA EVEN HAD A 4 CAPTION, 25-25-25-25 SCORE SHEET..BUT THE EFFORT MET GREAT RESISTANCE FROM JUDGES WHO HAD LEARNED HOW TO MULTIPLY 16.5 X 5 AND COULD NOT ADJUST TO A NEW SYSTEM. THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE BUT DON DESERVES HUGE, HISTORICAL CREDIT FOR ACCEPTING MY IDEA AND DEVELOPING THE 50/50 SCORE SHEET AND GIVING IT A FIELD TRY. ANYWAY...I WILL SOON COMPLETE THE PROFESSIONAL SURVEY AND WANT TO VOLUNTEER NOW AS A JUDGE A THE JANUARY EVENT. BY THE WAY, I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET STARTED ON THE RIGHT FOOT BY HAVING A MINIMUM OF 2 JUDGES PER LANE. WE HAVE PLENTY OF SKILLED JUDGES NOW TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE WHERE IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE YEARS AGO.

Thank you to Sandi Wiemers for making the dream of so many, to have baton twirling recognized for the tremendous sport that it is, come closer to fruition through all of her tireless efforts. Having attended the meeting in Chicago as the coach of the Villanova University twirlers, I am in utmost awe of all that has happened since that early meeting.
As a part of the Music Activities Department, the twirlers at Villanova are encouraged to perform in all venues, including competition, and will consider attending the NCABT meet in Atlanta next year.
I would also like to encourage high school twirlers to seriously consider Villanova University, which is near Philadelphia, when looking into their college choices. Twirling opportunities not only exist for our football program, but also include performances at our prestigious basketball games.

What a great idea since other women’s sports have become more popular because of the adoption of Title 9. Also, I think your web site is rather classy.
